So, I (Betsy) have always thought that people who made their own baby food were crazy and had WAY too much time on their hands. However, when it came time to start introducing Jack to solids, I was inspired to try my hand at it. I have had a BLAST doing the research, buying the produce and now making our very own babyfood. It's such a good feeling to know exactly what Jack is eating, with nothing extra added in. I really am having so much fun making it, too. It's very pretty to look at. Strange, I know. Also, I don't really have the time to be doing this... there are many other things that I should have been doing. But oh well. There are worse things I could be spending time doing... right?
Earlier last week I made Butternut Squash and Green Peas. They both went over so well that today I made Apples and Acorn Squash. Here are the photos to proove it:
First you cut it open and scoop out the seeds.
Then you steam it.
Then you scoop it out of the skins.
Then you puree it.
Then you scoop it into the freezer trays.
And in the morning you have lots of perfect, serving size portions of beautifully colorful and fresh baby food!
Here is Jack getting his first taste of anything besides milk or rice cereal: banana!
He thinks he's pretty big stuff in his high chair, holding his spoon...
and holding his own bottle of water to wash down that yummy food!
He ate the Butternut Squash all gone, like it was candy!
And he loved the Green Peas, too.
Looking at these pictures, it is hard to believe that we have such a BIG boy! But we are loving watching him grow and learn/try new things every day. He is a JOY.
ps- I took him for his sixth month check up last week. He weighs over 16 lbs and is over 25 inches long. This puts him around the 20th % for both weight and height of full term 6 month olds. He's doing great!
Our good friends, Heather and Eddie, went to Oak Glen with us a couple weeks ago so that Heather could photograph Jack and us. We were lucky to hit it on a cooler day with lots of sunshine. We enjoyed mini-donuts, hot apple cider, apples, pumpkins and each other's company! Heather did an amazing job, as you can see below. Thanks, friend!
